APPLICATION NOTES:
A Practical Guide to Dielectric Testing
There are so many safety tests that manufacturers of electrical products must perform today before product can be shipped. Requirements differ from standard to standard and country-to-country but the ultimate goal is the same: operator and consumer safety. Take a look at this application note for definitions of the basic electrical safety tests (EST) and methods in which they are performed.
So You Need to Measure Some Inductors?
Then investigate this application note. Here is a discussion on inductance, its basic properties and methods of measurement. How does DC Bias help? And how can a DCR measurement help characterize the total loss (DF) of a wire? Just what are the three losses that make up DF anyway?
Medical Equipment Test Applications using the 7000 Precision LCR Meter
The 7000 Series Precision LCR Meters designed for full characterization of passive components were not at first thought of as medical equipment analyzers. Yet it is that precise measurement capability that makes the 7000 Series instruments ideal for testing medical products or components requiring specific frequencies or sweeps. Read on for other medical test applications of the 7000 Series instruments.
Measuring IR with the Guardian 2530
The Guardian 2530 AC/DC/IR Hipot Tester is capable of making insulation resistance (IR) measurements at applied voltages of 50V - 1000V over the range 10kW - 2TW with a basic accuracy of 2%. Read on for a complete discussion on how the instrument measures IR and the use of filtering techniques to further sharpen the IR measurement.
MEDICAL NEWS:
Why Product Safety Test Your Electrical Medical Products?
The simple answer is because we have to. Here is the second article in a series on IEC60601-1, a widely used standard for safety testing of electrical medical devices. Author Leo Eisner of Eisner Safety Consultants discusses legal requirements for medical product safety testing with examples of how U.S. consumer agencies implement IEC60601-1 regulations/requirements. There is quite a bit more to testing electrical medical devices than just user safety.
A seminar on General Safety Requirements for Electro-Medical Devices is being offered at UC Irvine Extension.
On July 28, 2001 Leo Eisner (Eisner Safety Consultants) and Dan Modi (Alcon Labs) will be presenting a seminar on General Safety Requirements for Electro-Medical Devices at UC Irvine Extension. This course is designed for individuals involved in the design & development, manufacturing, product certification or regulatory approvals of electrical medical products intended for the North American, European Australian, and Japanese markets.
